Miss Jessie Tennet was a formidable figure that made significant differences to the school in her sixteen years as Headmistress.  She had a ‘sharp intellect and an enquiring mind’ that pushed the staff to raise the academic standards of the school. Upon becoming  Head in April 1957 she grew the roll from 700 to 850 pupils, embarked on a ‘considerable building programme’ including the Science Labs, an outdoor (which then became an indoor) swimming pool and the gym. She also did not appear to be afraid to change things; ending the House System and then to the gasp of the Hall “she walked onto the platform to take assembly wearing a trouser suit”, she was the first Head to allow the girls to wear trousers.

If you have memories of Miss Tennet, then please do post them here. It will become an important oral history of the school.
