A TEACHER'S REACH

Two teachers inspire a love of English Literature and build the foundations for a writing career...

After recently publishing 'The Legacy of Esme Clark' it has been wonderful to hear how much Esme was loved and respected by her students and friends.   We were contacted by Jean Liddiard, co-author of Arts and Crafts Pioneers, The Hobby Horse Men and their Century Guild.   Jean wanted to let us know “how much I owe to my teachers at WGGS, especially Esme Clark and also Eileen Mackinlay who died some years ago. Through them I came to love English literature, and had the marvellous experience of performing in Eileen’s productions of Shakespeare at WGGS, and through them I obtained for 1962 a place at Newnham College Cambridge to read English. The foundation they gave me enabled me to fulfil my ambition to write.”

Further information on Jean’s latest co-authored book can be found in this Book Leaflet

As mentioned by publishers Lund Humprhries, Jean “taught at Central Saint Martin’s for several years, followed by roles at the Imperial War Museum, the National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery. She is now an independent lecturer, writer and curator. She is the author of The Half-Used Life: Isaac Rosenberg Poet and Painter 1890- 1918, and has published several editions of Rosenberg’s work.”
