Dr Neha Chopra is a former WGGS Head Girl and a trustee of the Women of Vision Trust. Her child attends the school, and her mother is Mrs Chopra, our long-serving Economics teacher. Neha is a consultant medical oncologist at the Royal Free and Barnet hospitals, specialising in breast cancer. On 9 September, she set out on a London-to-Paris bike ride with 65 other participants to raise money for cancer research. Neha said of the challenge:

“It was always a dream since I started cycling 11 years ago to cycle from London to Paris. After having 3 children and undergoing surgery for a ruptured ACL, I did it!

It was one of the most memorable experiences I will have. There is no doubt that my time at WGGS having done Duke of Edinburgh bronze, silver and gold along with following the WGGS path of 'I can do it and I will do it' has got me here today. The training was a commitment over the last 6 months, but it was worth it.

Seeing a county on 2 wheels is a different experience. I hope I can inspire any budding cyclists; it does not matter how fit or how young you are. Our group had 66 participants ranging from 16 to 76 years and there were bikes with full carbon and 24 gears along with a steel hybrid bike with 3 gears....it doesn’t matter how you do it...what matters is that you do it!

I have currently raised over £5,500 for The Royal Free Cancer Charity for the New Cancer Centre and this was with the help of my husband donating his 50th birthday presents to the cause!”
