Dear Watford Girls Alumni
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the death of Miss Shrimpton, who passed away on Tuesday 12th November. Miss Shrimpton had suffered with a prolonged illness since November 2023 and despite her absence from school since then, she has been a significant presence in the life of the school.
We will all miss her more than words can express. She was not just a teacher, Head of Year, Assistant Head and PE and Psychology teacher, but also a colleague to the staff and a good friend to many people as well. How people respond to such sad and difficult news is different for each person and so please show your compassion with each other as well as Miss Shrimpton’s family.

Miss Shrimpton joined the Watford Girls community as a PE teacher in September 2004. Within two years she had become the Second in PE and in 2007 she become a Head of Year. Miss Shrimpton led two year groups all the way from Year 7 to Year 11 and was incredibly popular due to her kindness, high standards and care for each child in her year group. In 2017 she was asked, at last minute, to act as an Assistant Head, when the Leadership Team had gone through a very sudden change. This proved she had excellent skills as a leader and so in 2018 she become a permanent Assistant Head and Director of Key Stage 3.
Best wishes
Sylvia
