In memory of Patricia Toms (WGGS 1944-1956)

I are sad to announce the passing, in May 2025, of Patricia Toms (WGGS 1944-1956), at the age of 88.  With the 1944 Education Act and the introduction of the 11 Plus, Pat and her contemporaries were the last of the WGGS intake at the age of seven, which meant they were the 'babies' of the school for five years.  She graduated with a BA (Hons) in German from Bedford College (University of London) where she subsequently worked on the administrative staff for many years, transferring to Royal Holloway and Bedford New College at Egham when the colleges merged in 1985 and achieving the position of Senior Assistant Registrar.  On moving to Charlbury, she worked in administration for several years at St Hugh's College, Oxford, before finally retiring.  Pat was a long-standing member of the Old Grammarians' Association in its original form and contributed regularly to the Newsletter.  Donations in her memory were invited for Riding for the Disabled, reflecting her involvement with, and the great pleasure she gained from, riding over many years.
